All hands on deck: Council and schools unite for the Reef.
Bundaberg Regional Council recently hosted a unique day of learning at Lady Musgrave Island. Connecting with 10 Bundaberg region Reef Guardian schools, the collaboration brought our Reef Guardian programs together to give local students a front-row seat to the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef.
The Council-led excursion moved classroom science into the field, allowing students to engage directly with the Reef through snorkelling, guided island tours, and ‘marine biologist for a day’ experiences. For many students, this was a series of "firsts," including their very first time on a boat or seeing coral firsthand.
This collaboration highlights the strength of our regional network, where Council, local teachers, and the Reef Authority work together to drive environmental education. By moving beyond theory, we are helping to shape and inspire the leaders of tomorrow and showing that there’s no classroom on earth like the Great Barrier Reef!
