Moranbah State School is located in the township of Moranbah. The town was created in 1971 with the primary purpose of providing housing and services to employees and their families within the mining industry. The community is situated 200 kilometres West of Mackay and has a population in excess of ten thousand people.
Moranbah is one of the largest mining communities within the Bowen Basin. The school is well supported by the community and specifically the mining companies, which is characteristic of the Moranbah township. Moranbah State School’s staff are enthusiastic and professional.
Moranbah State School is a high performing school. Our performance in NAPLAN and standardised testing in reading, mathematics and science (progressive achievement tests) is strong and continues to improve. We use the John Fleming Model, with 'Explicit Instruction' as our core pedagogical strategy. Our strong focus on literacy and numeracy is supported by effective programs such as 'LEM', our phonics program. Our teachers use the Australian Curriculum and work collaboratively to design 'Explicit Instruction' lessons that best teach core skills.
Joined the Reef Guardian School program in 2010.
