Kalkie State School, Bundaberg, sits on the most southern end of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park catchment, and was the first school in the Southern GBR to become a Reef Guardian School. Kalkie not only has the Great Barrier Reef and the beautiful Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave islands on our doorstep, but also the Mon Repos Turtle Rookery which supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and has the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific region.
