Earthwatch Australia is teaming up with CANOE Projects OzFish, MICDA and MINT for a hands-on community event exploring how our local creeks, mangroves, beaches and marine environments are all connected!
Water, nutrients, wildlife and unfortunately pollution all move between habitats. The health of our creeks and coastal wetlands directly influences the condition of our beaches and surrounding marine environment—and the fish, turtles, birds and other wildlife that depend on them.
Join us at Picnic Bay on Yunbenun-Magnetic Island this Saturday 26th September for a fun-filled stewardship event!
Throughout the morning, participants will participate in several activities led by local environmental groups:
- Beach clean-up with MICDA
- CreekWatch with OzFish, including water-quality testing, macroinvertebrate assessment and fish identification
- MangroveWatch with Earthwatch Australia and CANOE Projects, measuring and identifying mangroves and exploring their health, carbon stocks and connections with surrounding ecosystems
- Sea turtle identification with MINT, learning about our local turtle species, their habitats and the threats they face

A light morning tea will be provided. Please bring your own additional snacks and lunch, drinking water, enclosed shoes and sun protection.
All ages and abilities are welcome, and children can attend with adult supervision. Spaces are limited, so registration is essential.
