“Reef Rivals” Making Waves Around the World! 🌏Holland Park State School, Brisbane. (Teacher: Cassandra Walker)
This year, one of our Year 6 students and EcoWarrior leaders, Felicity, has taken her learning in Entrepreneurial Science Technology and Sustainability (ESTAS) to an inspiring new level. After investigating the threats facing coral reefs, including pollution; climate change; overfishing; and marine debris, Felicity wanted to do more than just learn about the problem. She wanted to take action.
Drawing on her creativity, research, and passion for the environment, Felicity designed and developed her very own educational card game called Reef Rivals. The aim of the game is simple but powerful: to teach players about the challenges facing our reef ecosystems and to inspire actions that help protect them. The game combines strategy and conservation messages in a fun and engaging format suitable for both children and adults.
Thanks to her hard work and initiative, we now have 15 printed copies of "Reef Rivals" and the impact will be spread far beyond our school. Copies will be shared with schools in:
- Spain
- Indonesia
- Bundaberg
- North Queensland
- Brisbane
Teachers and students across these communities will be learning from Felicity’s project, helping to raise awareness and promote real-world actions that protect our reefs.
We are incredibly proud of Felicity’s innovation, leadership, and commitment to making a difference. Her project is a fantastic example of how student-led ideas can create meaningful change and inspire others around the world.
Congratulations, Felicity—your ripple effect is reaching reefs and classrooms everywhere!
This card game has been professionally printed and turned out quite well. Felicity has worked really hard and it has paid off!
