Stormwater drain art increases awareness of how our coastal ecosystems are connected to the Great Barrier Reef, and how litter in our communities can easily become marine debris.
Our new reef themed stencil kits make creating your artwork easier and faster. The lightweight kits contain 16 reef- themed stencils in an A3 portfolio. The stencils range in size from 15cm for the prawn, and up to 58cm for the shark, whale, and word stencils. Once painted the stencils create clean edged silhouettes that students can then embellish to create original works of art.
Due to the limited number of kits, they are only available for loan to schools within the Great Barrier Reef Catchment for a period of two weeks at a time. You can register your interest in borrowing a kit by emailing us at reefguardians@gbrmpa.gov.au
The drain stencil activity instructions can be downloaded as a PDF below. The instructions also include images of the stencils which can be printed and cut out to help students create their drain art design.
