The Biome Builders International Team

Reef Quest

The B.B.I. Team consists of the following specialists:

  • Marine Biologists
  • Marine Botanists
  • Coral Research Divers
  • Marine Ecologists

Tasks:

  • Teams will be formed consisting of one specialist from each area.
  • Each specialist will actively conduct research based on his/her area of expertise.
    1. Each team will then design and create:
      "Coral Reef Biome Portfolio"
      OR
    2. "Coral Reef Biome Web Page"
  • Each team will conclude with an oral presentation to the rest of the teams, describing and justifying their project.
  • After all oral presentations have been made your organisation is to select the best portfolio or web page and submit it to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority for evaluation. For more information contact us at info@reefed.edu.au

Teacher Notes:

  1. This activity requires students to have some prior background knowledge of coral reef ecosystems and should therefore be used to enhance or extend student thinking, during units based on coral reefs.
  2. Students should be encouraged to utilise resources such as power point and other forms of multimedia in their presentations.
    Extension activities may include:
    • Creative writing activities (letter writing, poetry, song lyrics, newsletters, brochures)
    • Correspondence with scientists and management authorities such as the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
    • School and local community education through public service announcements using various forms of media. For example, information billboards, media centres, video.
