2006
Extraordinary Education Event for Students and Teachers!!
Would you like your students to join with other students in your region to share stories about what the school is doing as part of the United Nations 'Decade for Sustainable Development'?
The United Nations "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development" is well underway and your schoolis well positioned to respond to the Decade with a your participation in this year's Future Leaders Congress.
Real environmental protection can only be achieved if more awareness is generated through our students and the wider community. The students of today will be the decision-makers of the future and it is vitally important that we empower them to learn about their environment and the ways they can protect and support it.
What is the Future Leaders Congress?
The 2006 Future Leaders Congress for Sustainablity recognises that youth want to have a greater say on environmental issues that, in the long term, will affect them.
This innovative concept encourages students, teachers and their schools to work with stakeholders in their communities to develop a coordinated approach to managing their water, waste, energy, biodiversity, and looking after the many diverse marine environments in our catchments. The Future Leaders Congress shows students that long term, real differences may be achieved when we all work together.
Schools are invited to be involved in their local Congress by nominating four student delegates to attend the 2006 Future Leaders Congress in your region.
What is the 2006 Future Leaders Congress theme?
This year our theme is 'Sustainability…show us how you do it'. The theme emphasizes the showcasing of your school's approach to sustainability education and improving triple bottom line outcomes.
Come along and demonstrate how students change their schools and learn how they can change their community. Show how your schools
- are among the most exciting places to learn
- have outdoor environments that students enjoy
- are places where students take care of their school, their environment and each other
- participate with their communities to live more sustainably and improve the quality of life for all.
What is the aim of the Future Leaders Congress?
The purpose of the Future Leaders Congress is to:
- expose students to experiences and activities relating to sustainability issues and the management and protection of our catchments and Great Barrier Reef
- allow students to voice issues, hopes and dreams about the current and future management of the environment.
