Future Leaders Congress

An Invitation to Schools

Extraordinary Education Event for Students and Teachers!!

Would you like your students to join with other students in your region to help protect our catchment, coast, ocean and Great Barrier Reef?

Real environmental protection can only be achieved if more awareness is generated through our students and the wider community.  The students of today will be the decision-makers of the future and it is vitally important that we empower them to learn about their environment and the ways they can protect and support it.

What is the 2005 Future Leaders Congress theme?

This year our theme is 'Discover the ocean in your backyard'. The theme emphasizes our connection to the ocean, no matter where we live - inland or by the coast. By exploring and discovering our links to the ocean, we learn how closely connected each of us really are.

What we do in our backyard and community can have a positive or negative affect on our oceans. Water resources are very precious, as all plants and animals on Earth need water to survive, however water resources are also limited. Protection of our waterways and oceans starts with the protection of our catchments and the protection of our catchments starts with you!

What is the aim of the Future Leaders Congress?

The purpose of the Future Leaders Congress is to:

  • expose students to experiences and activities relating to water quality issues and the management and protection of our catchments and Great Barrier Reef
  • develop an ACTION PLAN for each school region
  • allow students to voice issues, hopes and dreams about the current and future management of the environment.
