Well here we are at the end of another Term, and I can almost hear the collective sigh of relief from around Queensland! The mid-year report cards are done, parent teacher interviews completed – and thankfully some much needed rain to some areas that were in desperate need of it! I hope you all have a chance to have a (cool) break and recharge those batteries for a huge Term three.

The “Sea-ing Sustainability” competition is finally up and running! Your school can win great prizes just by taking pictures of your Reef Guardian Schools projects! As it is now Term three, it is time in the Reef Guardian yearly cycle to take those “after” photos, or just to snap away some images of all of the great work that you have been doing. All photos entered into the competition must have been taken by students as part of Reef Guardian activities and each school can enter up to 5 photos. Registration will be open soon for this competition. Once registered, we will send you an entry kit including the entry forms, consent forms and posters to advertise the competition in your school.

1st – Sony DVD Handycam with rewritable DVD’s, Sony 1gb memory stick, Sony Gunzoom microphone, tripod and camera bag.

2nd – Sony Cybershot W55 with Sony 1gb memory stick and tough carry case

3rd – Sony Cybershot W35 with Sony 1gb memory stick and tough carry case

So get snapping for the chance to win your school a new camera or video camera!

Term three is also Annual Report time. You will be pleased to know that we have reduced the length of the report substantially in response to feedback from last year’s evaluation. The report is now only one page long, though it does have an evaluation form attached, as we appreciate your feedback. The Reef Guardian Schools Annual Report is due at the end of Term 3, and is available on the ReefED website.

Future Leaders Eco Challenges (FLECs) are underway around Queensland, with Gympie a roaring success for Eco Challenge number one – we were even mentioned in State Parliament that night! So, keep your ear out for your local FLEC, for more information contact the Reef Guardians Programme Manager on (07) 47 500 850.
