Aim

To develop in school communities an integrated reef education program that emphasises the relationship between individuals, communities and the Great Barrier Reef.

Create learning environments that reflect environmentally sustainable practices, and that enable all students to be active and committed 'Reef Guardians'.

Foster new optimism about the future, the Reef and what we can all do to protect it.
Important Dates

Register as a Reef Guardian School Expressions of interest for the Reef Guardian Schools prohram are welcome at any time during the year.

Annulally, schools send or deliver submission documentation to the GBRMPA at the end of Term 3 each year.
- Reef Guardian School Awards are held in Term 4 each year.
School Community Outcomes

School communities' achievements are recognized through the Reef Guardian Schools' accreditation system and rewards.

Schools can become models of best practice environmental management.

Schools can establish a long-term program of reef-friendly activities by collating photos, drawings, stories, observations, recordings, clippings, videos and research projects, and submit these for accreditation to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

Benchmarks set by the school are used to establish a process of continuous school improvement.

School communities will be able to access and share related activities and actions via a valuable database of information.
